Sunday Bowl Cereal Club is a dessert bar providing a playful and one of a kind experience. Visitors are treated with a sweet, whimsical burst of sense stimulation through the nature of their sweets products and the lively nuance of the bar. Started in Bandung city as their first branch, Sunday Bowl Cereal Club Jakarta was brought to the capital city’s heart of trending cultures; Southern Jakarta. Adjoining numerous spots for fashion and dine and drink joints, this dessert bar stands out with its quirky facade. It tries to blend the playfulness for the sweet tooth into a spatial experience bringing alive the founder’s love for dessert. The facade is shaped and decorated resembling a classical arcade arena where visitors are invited to step into a world of retro games. The dominant color of the building is navy and orange. They are first welcomed by a podium for the greeter to direct the seating or to the waiting area on the right side where the walls use geometrical decoration made of hollow steel that resembles shapes within an 8 bit game. Into the bar visitors will go through a mirror door to a room with an art decorated wall before they get into the main area of the bar.

This project demands for a hefty interior process in decorating and delivering quirky shapes and colors. We learned that delivering such a unique spatial nuance requires not only attention to detail, but sense and patience in the experimentation process. Delivering intended colors and shapes through materials we don’t routinely use turns out to be an important learning process for us. Furthermore, skills in arranging and processing material in a unique arrangement demands for excellence as to our eyes as the executor, the end product can be perfected with more presentably neat application especially in the more crowded area of the bar. However, the satisfaction of stakeholders in Sunday Bowl Cereal Club, hype of the crowd, and media coverage as well as commercial use of the site became a glorious result for us.

Sampling and experimentation is an important step in delivering the intended color and shapes for such a playful and quirky concept of the bar
