Somewhere, Over The Sea

Entering the lobby, workers and visitors are greeted with a curved glass block wall surrounding the front office giving a sense of watery glimmer lights to the room. Experimentation and simulations on forming this arrangement of glass blocks took a lot of trial and error for our methodical approach. This play on lighting is accompanied by the application of stainless ceilings, a reflective metallic element that compliments the natural sense of the room with its live ecosystem in the paludarium, fish scale-like wall decorations, hanging lamps and the general nuances of the lobby. Applying this stainless ceiling took several steps, given the material’s delicate and high maintenance nature combined with the height of placement. The working culture is then reflected by the open space layout throughout the floor with phone booths installed for online meeting needs. The office also accommodates large scaled virtual meetings with built-in cameras in a dedicated room that can capture larger rooms and auto focus on detected speakers of the meeting.

The project was set for a 3-months timeline, a rather cramped period for an extensive surface to cover. Measuring the accurate existing media was a key process to prevent over procurement or material scarcity. We learned, experimented, and applied a wide array of systems and approaches to complete it. We exercised the balance of utilizing easy to process materials with high quality and sustainable output. Managing the sequence of work was also a big lesson for us, as putting the civil work and interior loose furniture placement at the same time was proven to be counterproductive for each of the processes. Succeeding in maneuvers through the design changes and revision while making sure the building progress is constantly moving forward was a big achievement for us. The final result of the build produced a grand work of rooms, with uniquely customized material and atmosphere; This is Efishery Headquarter Lobby.
