This coffee shop was built upon the meeting of fate between opportunity and aspiration. A beverage consultant’s moment to crystalize his passion for coffee, a creative group bound to the voyage for business of delights, and a space so convenient yet in need of pivot. Tucked away in the composed area of Northern Bandung, Capdangu aims to provide a destination for visitors seeking content and pleasant drinks. The space is constructed in a traditional structure decorated and arranged in a modern and gleaming vibe of vibrant colors. Visitors are then welcomed with the outdoor seating area, directed to two main structures of the coffee shop. The first one consists of the seating area that gracefully merges into the bar. This part is intended for visitors seeking to chat and socialize, with furniture designs that complements group settings. The second structure focuses more for the productivity area with seating arranged suitable for working and reading. The backyard accommodates visitors coming in group, with a more private setting for visitors seeking quiet and minimal disturbance.
The existing site consists of two main structures that are hollow and unequipped with any civil work or facilities. Instead our construction process heavily focuses on the arrangement of thoughtfully designed furniture and decorations. We aim to put the bar as the main vocal point of the coffee shop where fusion of traditional and modern concepts is showcased here. The building process is at an advantage as there are no partitions in terms of the end product we are planning for as well as the preexisting condition of the site. We experimented with the use of hologram directed at the background wall of the bar to present the modern vibes, allowing the neon vibrant colors that complements the traditional nature of the building’s structure. It successfully delivered a timeless duality concept with minimum demand for maintenance. Being a melting pot project of craftsmans so passionate in their art for beverage and design, our timeline is coincidentally close to one of Bandung’s largest annual design exhibitions; one that we aim to have Capdangu participate in. With this sudden parallel of deadline we exercised our mastery in planning to accomplish the site in time that we eventually were able to have the coffee shop participate in the event.
Capdangu aims to accommodate passion in delights and become a sanctuary for visitors to regularly come back to for the exquisite spatial nuance and food and beverages product. We learned humility in this project, despite being a rather smaller scale project in terms of areas in need of coverage and depth of construction work. Considering maintenance with the high ceiling of the main structures and the concept of open space building we learned that details matter, despite the scale of the project. Overlooking the details can result in the lack of depth quality through perfectionism perspective. However, the end product delivered a one of a kind delightful experience that over the years has proven to enable us in building a loyal community and crystalizing love for craftsmanship openly to the public. We successfully executed an integrated planning that became a distinctive and timeless coffee shop.
